WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. —

Wake Forest University is working with Carter and Front Street Capital to redevelop the Deacon Boulevard area.

According to a press release, the school wants to redevelop university-owned property east of the Reynolda campus adjacent to Allegacy Stadium, Couch Ballpark and the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Atlanta-based Carter and Winston-Salem-based Front Street Capital were chosen to help create the mixed-use project.

The new development will include housing, retail and restaurants.

Right now, the area is mostly made up of parking lots.

In the press release, Wake Forest's President said this opportunity presents a chance for the community to grow.

"We want to support a thriving community where people can live, work, play and stay with a goal of ensuring the area between Reynolds Boulevard and Coliseum Drive serves our Winston-Salem Community," said Susan R. Wente.
